Default Nuker vs SS in SF

3 groups in a row when logged in on my nuker for a SF farming run the MM in the group said he would quit if an Ele Nuker went instead of a SS Necro. I just laughed but being inexperienced with SS I was curious if they worked better or this was just necro's sticking up for other necro's.

I then logged on with my monk and did a few runs with SS necro's. After watching a monk use smite hex over and over again I came to the conclusion that for SF, Nukers are better. Am I wrong?

I'm beginning to think its just necro's sticking up for other necro's.

Another advantage to nukers over SS would be the target ablility. If a priest is standing back from the group SS doesn't have the same effect, where as an ele can just drop a meteor shower on the main group then use targeting spells on the priest.

But just to test things myself, I made a necro last weekend. She should be ready for runs tonight if I log on.

nuker vs SS in FA/oro

nuker: if the party knows what they are doing and nuker is smart, only be using meteor shower and single hit fire spells that does not cause fleeing
good for making dwarves do situps, good damage and knockdown

SS: spiteful spirit, spinal shivers, rend enchantments, barbs, weaken armor, mesmer interupts, battery spells for monks maybe, awaken, A-ECHO
an echo'd spiteful spirit spammed on as many targets as possible does alot ALOT alot of damage over a small period of time, plus spinal shivers and rend to keep priests and blue bosses from being so annoying, and barbs or weaken armor to help the MM in the group (namely ME), i have seen alot of SS necros bring mesmer interupts which works great

all in all, i think SS > nuker for SF farming

Default SS vs Nuker

I do a lot of Oro farming and i do prefer SS necros rather than nuker. The reson i prefer SS necros is because never in a run with SS necro have I or my team die; however with nukers cant pass the first group. I guess the nukers were bad. I belive the resone u get so many bad nukers is because any new players can make them; on the other hand, SS necros are build by ppl who know the game better cuz not everyone know the SS skill and the SS skill set-up.

Let me show u my skill set-up and tell me what u think about it.

Skills
Awaken The Blood
Spiteful Spirit
Archane Echo
Mark of Pain
Insidious Parasite
Spinal Shivers
interrupt skill
Res sig (u can change this for another skill cuz u wont need it)

Attribs
Blood Magic 8+1
Soul Reaping 10+1
Curses 13+3
5 left (u can use for domination or inspiration magic depending on ur interrupting type)

Now i know u guys think why use Mark of Pain when it has been nerfed? I use Mark of Pain when the MM has a lot Fiends. You will see a lot of 46s on ur screen; it looks crazy. The Monsters die b4 they can turn to run.

Seriously, if u hanvent try SS necro in Oro farming try and enjoy it; I know u will.

Well I have tried my SS necro in SF and I will say its definetly easier than nuking. Since when nuking you have to use 5 spells or so to do dmg where as a SS only needs...well guess all you really would need is awaken, echo and SS. However two things bother me a little bit when I use her.

First is at the first boss inside SF when you are fighting at the top of the stairs. You get that annoying shaman using smite hex and the two priests healing him. Not a big deal 80% of the time, but one in five trips its takes over 5 minutes to clear that spot.

And second is no fault to the SS necro, its to the other people in the groups. I hate it when the tank tries to call targets, he isn't doing any damage. As a quality caster, I know who to target and how to best use my skills to kill the most important target. When you come down to it, only the nuker/ss will actually target someone.

Yogi it's good to see you tested this out and came to the correct conclusions.

As an SS necro myself I get tired of warriors who have the simplest job of the party yet spout advice. I suppose they're trying to not look so much as just a gear-bitch.

SS is much more effecient than nuker; you can farm the same area in slightly less time. PLEASE NOTE I did not say more effective. You can farm Oro just fine with a nuker, assuming the player knows how to play an ele (which isn't always the case unfortunatly). Playing an SS necro is simple casting, and with the recent Necro population boom they are more available now which means the Ele really isn't necessary. To be honest, the SS/MM combo was always a better option, it's just that Anet's nerf to the AoE made the kiddies move to a new simple casting build (since the AoE patch eliminated the simple caster build for the Ele class).

Anyway, I've farmed Oro just fine with a Ranger and MM as the damage dealers and it was effective as well. To be honest, in the end if you have a good MM the other damage dealer is really just insurance.

This is so funny, everyone copy the build of another... SS is nice... but necros have better skills that SS... skills that kick ass... but everyone use SS... i have specifics builds with my ele that i use to farm in SF, i farm alone in SF, i have ele/mes and ele/necro (dont use a ele/ranger because of cost to use a bow(without a bow u cant use a ranger)), the funny is that necros have better skills that SS if u want to kill a lot of foes at same time, and skills that u can use to protect u and the tank... (i am the tank and the killer machine myself)... but eveyone copy the build of another player...
About what is better SS or Nuker... a good necro can do the work very well... a good nuker can do the work very well to... u need have luck, if SS necro dont have vision of batle, or warrior dont kwon how to agroo the right way ( agroo is a art), u are lost... if nuker dont kwon how nuke right how stop monks... u are lost... u need luck to get good players... thats it foes...

I have both and they both can deal massive amounts of damage. IMHO, the Nuker is harder to play now because of the AoE nerf. You do have to be very aware of your surrondings and everyone's positions. Well, you should be anyway, but that's not always the case. And it's frustrating as hell when you fire up a nuke on a position that the tank has aggroed, then he runs off taking the enemy with him. Wasted nuke. With my SS Nec, they can run around all day long and it doesn't matter.

Well said. The SS necro is about as close to idiot-proof as you can get. (Where idiots could be the SS necro or teammates). An Ele nuker since Nov 10 requires considerable skill, attention, and cooperation from teammates to be effective and non-harmful to the team. As long as you make sure the SS necro leaves Mark of Pain at home (except in special cases where you have an item-holder tank and expert MM, as a poster mentioned above) and brings Arcane Echo, Spinal Shivers, and enchantment removal, you're good to go. With an Ele you're taking a huge gamble. Some Ele's can contribute almost as much as an average SS necro, but most end up being a liability. (BTW, all these opinions come from plenty of experience playing as both an SS necro and an ele nuker, in addition to teaming with them).
